Have you ever heard of Władysław and Irena Starewicz (aka Ladislas and Irene Starevitch)? Their stop-motion animated movies totally inspired me to make this doll! Seriously, puppets used in the animations (made by the Starevitches, of course) are pretty awesome and inspiring, go and check them out!
So here it is, my contest entry and also a little tribute to the great and almost forgotten animators ^^
This little guy was quite difficult to make! I used: ● Super Sculpey, acrylic paints and faux wool (for head, legs and hands) ● polar fleece and polyester filling (for belly, arms and thighs) ● plastic pipe (for sort of spine) But I'm really satisfied with how he came out
Also, here you can see some Work-In-Progress photos: [link]
Ah.. I see the inspiration here. I too have been moved to now begin, if not a stop-motion dol, then at least a bjd so here's hoping it works out. Does you're move too?.. ^_^;``
I love that story. The puppets were so beautiful.
I LOVED the puppets! Especially the lion
I always liked the badger puppet. It's so realistic yet cartoony.
I just always wished I could animate my own films like that with such fun looking puppets.
It makes me wonder what happened with the puppets now? I certainly hope they're being displayed in a museum or something.
I have no idea... I'd love to see them, though! And I really hope they still ARE around.
Oh BTW, you mentioned their, well, original name, Starewicz. Are you somehow familiar with Polish or Russian?
And no I just prefer using the original name.
I'm not familiar with either, although I would like to learn both languages someday.
Wow, cool
